Ceramics have long accompanied our daily lives, becoming an integral part of living. They serve both culinary and visual purposes, and their malleability allows them to express distinct styles, making them not only functional but also outward symbols of personal taste. From a broader perspective, one can understand the shaping of these styles within their historical context, gaining deeper insight into the ceramics we use daily and even interpreting their meaning through changing definitions across eras. Building on this idea, the exhibition “Ceramics in Everyday Life” offers a non-routine viewing experience within everyday contexts, blending the roles of observer and observed: when you engage with the ceramics, you also contribute to someone else’s visual experience. Leveraging the vertical layout of the exhibition space, stairs create relationships of mutual observation between objects; the lower level combines a dining area, presenting ceramics filled with tea and seasonal shaved ice desserts, inviting visitors to sit, taste, and interact while holding the ceramics they just observed upstairs. Through these everyday-yet-extraordinary experiences, visitors are invited to rediscover the familiar world of “ceramics in daily life.
